I love writing this column each month. I am VERY proud and grateful to have been lucky enough to be born in the greatest country in the world, a country where many people wish they were born. I am also proud to do my part to keep America strong. I do this by trying my hardest to purchase American made products.
Buying American does several things, it keeps the money in America, it puts Americans to work and it helps keep our economy growing. Sure, it might be tough to go out of your way to find American products (it gets tougher everyday), but that is why I am writing this.
Made in USA Sharpie markers
So, getting back to the column, I wrote an entire column on a company that makes footballs and emblazons on their website how they make all of them in a plant in Ohio, employing most of the town’s residents and a light bulb went off in my head. Last year when my son signed up for football, we went out looking for a few balls for him. We looked at every brand available at quite a few stores. There was not one made in the USA, so we bought one. It was made in China (I was stuck, I tried!). It was also the brand that I just wrote the article about (I’m not telling you which brand). I had to verify this, so I went on down to my Dodge and looked at the football in the front seat. Yep, “Made in China” in tiny letters. Now I have to scrap the entire article and find a new product.
OK, so this month’s product is the awesome Sharpie marker. Everybody loves Sharpies right? They will write on anything! Try cutting a steel motorcycle fender with a band saw without using lines drawn with a Sharpie. It will come out a mess. Want to know how I know? Take a guess.
They come in a bunch of different colors and styles. They are my favorite marker and they aremade in the USA in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
Next time you need to draw a funny moustache on someone’s picture, grab a Sharpie that was made here. You’ll be doing your own version of an economic stimulus.
