• Everett Recreation Center, Everett, MA; October 12th & 13th

The RPS Power Challenge is in its 17th year, and TPS took it on this time to host our first Powerlifting meet, bringing RPS into the Boston area. It was a massive success, attracting about 200 lifters and a packed house of spectators both days

Huge thanks to all of the volunteers—spotters and loaders, judges, and door and concession helpers. Everyone did a fantastic job. The spotting in particular was faultless, and several of the spotters had also competed.

Highlights for TPS Lifters – Women

Raw Classic Open Division: Jessica Diedrich, Sue Priver, and Brittany Law won First Place and Anna Mekerian won Third Place in their weight classes in Full Power, all but Sue in their first meets.

Felicia Doucette and Ivy Pretto both took First Place in the Iron Man (Bench and Deadlift) for their weight classes in that division, as well.

Sue also set New England Records for all lifts and her 650 lb total.

Even on a bit of an off day for her, Jane Stabile still took First Place in the Masters 60-64 Multi-Ply Division.

Mary Southworth took First Place, setting several records and breaking the standing Bench world record for the Amateur Raw Modern Masters 40-44 with a 115 lb lift.

Highlights for TPS Lifters – Men

Carlos Moran was the star of the show, the belle of the ball if you will, as he took First Place, broke State Records for his Bench and Total, won Best Lifter, and now has the 11th ranked total for 2013 (1,755 lb) among all American federations and lifters.

    Other First Place Winners

Mike Brodeur (1,145 lb total in his first meet – Awesome Camp delivers!), Dustin Diedrich (State Record 500 lb Squat), David Polito (Submaster State Records in the Squat and Bench and a 20 lb PR on the Deadlift), Scott Schimer (first meet with PRs on all lifts), Rich Malloy III (State Records for Bench, Deadlift, and Total – and what a Deadlift!), Steve Amanti (first full power meet in a while after injury, State Records for All Lifts and Total).

Brett Keogh competed Bench-only in his first meet and set a State Record with his 445-pounder.

In the Junior divisions, we saw Nick Santangelo (1,290 Total, tied the State Deadlift record and broke the rest) and Derek Williamson (Junior Division with a New England Record Deadlift of 600lbs).

Second Place Winners & More Awesomeness

Adam Pine (New England Record 700 lb Deadlift),  Dan Fraske (1,345 Total), Kyle Lussier (1,260 Total) all took home the silver. Representing Juniors in 2nd place, Joe Mengesha  had an impressive 1,225 Total.

Will Hendrix placed 4th but added a whopping 180lbs to his previous PRs.
