This month I am going to let you know about someone extraordinary.
Not only is he a great lifter, but he is also a great father, husband, professor and friend.
I’m talking about TPS’s own Lauren Cohen.
Many of you may not know Lauren because he is training at his house primarily right now, but he was like a piece of furniture here for years.
Having a full time job as an economics professor at Harvard University, being a full time dad and husband, you would wonder where he finds the time or energy to train at all, never mind lift at the levels that he does.
Lauren has been a full geared powerlifter for many years with great success in the USAPL, but has recently switched over to RAW lifting in various federations.
He has been killing everything he sees lately and here are some of his most recent accomplishments:
The 2014 USAPL Vermont Open – Bennington, VT – October 25th
- Won 181 Men’s Raw Open Class
- Squat: 551, Bench: 336, Deadlift: 595 = Total: 1480
- Broke USAPL MA State Records in the Squat, Bench, and Total – Squat (551), Bench (336), and Total (1480)
The 2014 IPA National Powerlifting Championships – York, PA – November 15th
- Won Men’s Raw Drug-Tested Open 181 Class
- Squat: 551, Bench: 385, Deadlift: 575 = Total: 1550`
- Won Best Raw Drug Tested Lifter of the Entire National Championships
- Broke IPA World Record in the Total – Total (1550)
The 2014 IPA Night Before Christmas Powerlifting Championships – Ronkonkoma, NY – December 6th
- Won Men’s Raw Drug-Tested Open 181 Class`
- Squat: 630, Bench: 360, Deadlift: 575 = Total: 1565
- Won Best Lightweight Lifter of the Entire Championships
- Broke IPA World Record in the Squat and Total – Squat (630) and Total (1565)
***From Lauren:
And most meaningful to me, I broke the PowerliftingWatch All-Time Across Federation Squat World Record. In particular, the 630 Squat broke the Men’s 181 Drug-Tested Raw (with wraps) All-Time Squat Record. Here’s the link to the PLWatch Entry which includes this video.
This list is amazing! I wish Lauren more success and hope that he finds the time to get back here for a few training sessions.
Now if we can only teach him to hold the phone in landscape mode next time!
